Man Utd v Man City Analysis

Well it definitely wasn't boring!
First half
City started the half well, they put good pressure on United's defense and had a few chances which they didn't take, best of which was David Silva's shot which just skimmed past the far post after some fantastic footwork. As the half went on United's defense grew stronger and the team built on that becoming dominant in the play whereas City became sloppy and gave the ball away far too easily. Nani, who had been playing well then took full advantage of a chipped through ball by Giggs and took one touch to take it away from the defender and the other to neatly tuck it away in the corner just before half time.

Second Half
The second half took a while to kick start again. There was sloppy passing by both teams and play kept breaking down. Eventually City created a chance with a really nice passing movement which ended up with Edin Dzeko in the penalty area. The City substitute's shot then bounced off Silva's back sending Van der Sar the wrong way and leveled the scoreline. The game then started to liven up once again as both teams created chances. Owen was starting to warm up with the obvious swap being Rooney as he was becoming evermore frustrated by his poor service. This substitution was not to happen however as Rooney then scored a contention for goal of the season with the spectacular over head kick which ended up being the game winning goal. Just what he needed to hopefully end his goal drought.

A great game to watch as neither team was ever fully in control. Rightly won by a magical strike by Wayne Rooney.

My man of the match today was Chris Smalling. I doubted him before the game, but he was outstanding today. He made a lot of crucial tackles, blocks and clearances. Unexpected great performance, long may it continue!
