Birmingham City v Newcastle United (0-2)

Newcastle after being unlucky not to beat Blackburn away on the weekend wanted to make sure they won this game away, whilst Birmingham were hoping for a much better performance than their weekend game despite them getting them winning that. Peter Lovenkrands scored after just 1 minute and 30 seconds to give his team a big boost. He got in front of his defender and poked it in at the front post past Ben Foster. Birmingham then tried hard to get back into the game as Zigic had a good shot well saved by Harper. At the beginning of the second half and Newcastle came out strong again and scored their second of the evening after Leon jumped up well and headed it past Foster. Again Birmingham tried to fight their way back and had two good chances they couldn't take through Zigic and Roger Johnson. Newcastle have looked good recently which is a great achievement considering they have lost their best player in Andy Carroll.
